ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a South African professional artist residing in the Middle East, capturing the delicate dialogue between the Creator and the created. My work is a visual exploration of faith, layered in mixed media and finished in oil paint.
I believe that art is a sacred space for a “pause” - a moment to witness the unfolding of a promise or the rising of a prayer. By utilising a combination of oil and ink, often beginning with a foundation of decoupaged Word or a subtractive “unveiling” of the light, I create textures that reflect the movement of the soul.
Whether through the vibrant blossoms of my floral works or the steady gaze of the wild, my passion lies in creating visually compelling pieces that resonate with collectors in different walks of life. Every layer of paint is an answered breath; every composition is an invitation to see the extraordinary provision of the path we are on.
BIO
Liezle’s journey as an artist is a profound reflection of her connection with the Creator, the natural world, and the transformative power of spiritual growth. While her natural gifting for capturing beauty was evident from childhood, her path took a significant turn during her career as a humanitarian and health worker in the Middle East. Working with traumatised refugees, Liezle implemented Arts Therapy Counselling as a tool for healing and restoration - an experience that ultimately compelled her to pursue her own formal Fine Arts education at the Milan Institute of Art.
Today, as a professional artist, Liezle captures the “delicate dialogue” between the Creator and the created. Her work is deeply influenced by her South African roots and over 25 years of lived in the Middle East, blending themes of nature, culture, and personal transformation.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
Liezle’s technical approach is one of depth and discovery. She utilises a complex layering process involving:
Mixed Media Foundations: Incorporating acrylic washes, poured inks, and decoupaged text - often using scripture to represent the “Word” as a foundation.
The Subtraction Method: A signature technique where she “unveils” light and form from the canvas, illustrating how the “Light of the World” reveals beauty in the wild and the soul.
Oil Finishing: Every piece is finished in oil to bring a rich, atmospheric quality that bridges the gap between realism and abstract emotion.
Inspired by the mastery of Vermeer and Van Gogh, and the contemporary vision of Elli and Dimitra Milan, Liezle’s work - from her vibrant Floral Series to the patient strength of her Arab Series serves as an invitation to the viewer. It is a call to pause, to listen to the “silent song” of creation, and to find restoration in the stillness of the path.
